19 Life Lessons I’ve Learned from Rock Climbing

  1. If someone else has done something, you can do it too. You may not do it in the same way, and it may take you longer, but you can definitely do it. It’s been done before.
  2. Trust your support system. That’s what they’re there for. And hey, without them, why are you even here?
  3. The most unexpected people will surprise you. That tiny Asian girl over there? She may not look like much, but you’d better watch out when she comes for you.
  4. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. No one makes excuses for not doing the things they love.
  5. Sometimes you need to come down a little before you can make it to the top.
  6. Your mind is the only thing holding you back.
  7. Reaching your goals will take time.
  8. There will always be someone better than you. Learn from them. Analyze your weaknesses. There’s always a way to be better.
  9. Don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty. That’s when you’ll have the most fun and the most rewards.
  10. Wear sunscreen.
  11. If you don’t make it the first time, keep trying. It may take you 30 tries, but determination will always win.
  12. Sometimes the path you’re on may crumble beneath your fingers, but it’s okay. There’s always another way. You just have to figure it out.
  13. Unplug yourself once in a while. Take time to enjoy the world around you.
  14. When things get tough, take a deep breath and keep calm.
  15. Overcome your fears. Take the good with the bad. Nothing is ever as scary as you think.
  16. You don’t need material things (or even a lot of money) to be happy.
  17. People will try to tell you to do things their way. Take their advice with a grain of salt and figure out the best way for you.
  18. Stop thinking and start doing.
  19. Hopefully you’ve prepared yourself for failure. If not, there’s always next time.
